Making Change is not always easy. We often struggle to meet goals associated with the changes we desire even if they were set with the best intentions. It is often very difficult to make even simple changes. I wonder how many times I will hear ut the toilet seat down?before my life is over. If we can make simple changes like that, how can we make monumentous changes like getting through all of you business development phone calls in a day?Implementing The Slight Edge philosophy, I would start with my most difficult phone calls and then move into my warm market. Ie used this strategy and after the relief of my first couple of calls, the rest of the calls come easy.
I only had to make it over the first hump and the rest of the calls came very easy. Not only were the calls easier, because I had gotten over my initial fear of making the calls, which comes back every time, but I also spent far less time procrastinating and coming up with reasons to put the calls off. This small change allowed me to both be more productive and feel better about my day. When I implement this light Edge?I was able to cut the time it took to make my calls by 75%. I was able to see multiple increases to my productivity due to this change. I saved time that would have been normally spent procrastinating in the run up to the phone calls. I was also more effective in my phone calls because of the confidence and resolution I had in my plan.Just changing the order that I make my phone calls allowed me to, not only increase my productivity, but increase my job satisfaction because I did not regret the typical procrastination that came when I saved my toughest calls for last.
Not only was I more productive but, at the end of the day, I felt better about both how I spent my time and my results. This is a great illustration of the implementation of The Slight Edge Philosophy. Very similar to the Story of the Water Hyacinth, small consistent changes over time result in monumental changes. More effective prospecting results in both greater success and satisfaction. No one likes to have a negative phone call, but a negative phone call after 2 hours of procrastinating in anticipation of the call is a far greater disappointment. When trying to make a change, The Slight Edge can be an excellent tool. The key is taking small steps during implementation. The reason that this is successful, is because you are more likely to maintain the change when it isn't so difficult to maintain. You see the small successes and then are excited to build upon them. This is the polar opposite of tackling a lift manufacturer huge change having failures, and giving up all together. You can string together small successes and achieve a larger successes. Resolve to do one extra task a day. Resolve to use the stairs instead of the elevator. Implement your small change today and see massive results.
